Default Stellings Extension Box?

Has anyone removed the drive shaft and replaced it with a longer shaft that attaches to the bravo drive? Imco makes a longer one for use in their box. Anyone use a Zeiger industries shaft? Any pros/cons on doing this?

I'm not sure what your asking but I didn't use the short litle shafts that came with my Stellings boxes. We moved the engines forward aboout 2 ft. and made up some drive shafts to fit. I also used drive line bell housing setups and Bravo couplers instead of the direct connect to the flywheels. I'm running Imco SC's and they shift real smooth. I think the rubber couplers will help save the drives some hard knocks. Call me or pm me with any questions 215-768-4172 Bill

You have to set the box in the top set of holes
( lowest position) or move the engine up so that
you're at a neutral setting to allow you to use a
straight shaft.

Stellings boxes come with shortie drive shafts and a pillow block. Drive shafts have a U joint at each end so engines do not have to be raised like with Imco boxes using the straight shafts, ie extended bravo shafts. We made up 2 shafts just like in a car to go between the drive line units and the pillow blocks. The blocks are inside the boxes and the drives use the std. input shafts. Using the set up the way we did it allows us to use the boxes in any position without moving the engines.

I think he's trying to ditch the stellings driveshaft setup
and use the shaft thats in an IMCO box.

Your arrangement sounds neat though.

Don't buy anything "Stellings". They are not an honorable company. My boxes on a brand new boat blistered. I took it to them and they said it was because it was in the water...mmmm what did they think perhaps the boxes were on a windmill? Buy IMCO..honorable company with great support for the industry as a whole !!

Thanks Bill! We should be down on Sunday also, hope to hook up with you. I am trying to get rid of the short drive shafts and use the long bravo shafts that plug into the standard merc coupler. I am having problems with the u-joints and would like to get rid of them-maintenance night mare! Is the IMCO shaft a direct replacement for the Stellings box?

My stellings box has three holes and I am mounted in the middle hole. Which is the nuetral position in reference to the standard bravo inner transom plate?

The middle hole is roughly an inch up,
the top hole would be the neutral setting.

Mine are in the middle hole, and you can see that
they ( the driveshafts) angle upward somewhat.

Stellings ad even says " when installed in the middle hole,
it gives you an inch of raise"
