Looks homemade. No Trim. Where is the prop shaft? How do you keep the water from intering the boat. Where are the seals? How do you steer? Nope. Find something else.

It doesn't have any hard ware on it in this picture...

Its an dan arena boats surface drive. I just want to know if its any good...? It looks lighter and faster(topend) than a bravo one. But looks are deceiving right?

Howard Arneson and Dan Teamed up on some boat builds in the late 70's early 80's. Is this a spin off(copy) of a early Arneson or just something Dan made up him self?

It looks like a v-drive...moved rearward on the boat.

What you show in the first post is way different from the second photo. The first one looks very homemade and very marginal. Even the bolts that mount it to the boat look way undersized. The second photo looks like a stronger part (casting) with a wider mounting footprint on the transom and a better-developed piece. Note the sculpting on the rudder.

Either way, I would be nervous about using something that did not develop into a commercial success. There is no doubt that they appear to be very simple, with few moving parts, but they also appear to have been designed to handle low horsepower levels. If you're on a very strict budget, not using much power, and are a very capable do-it-yourselfer - It's your call.

Hopefully they are not asking more than $50.00.
