The new part...... It will allow customers to install the SCX resulting in a higher propeller shaft height. Allowing them to get the case out of the water. In my boats case my bravo set up was standard lower with 1.5" spacer. The standard SCX is -2. So with my set up I can go up 3.5 inches. If this was not my stock set up then I would have to raise my extension boxes(rerig) to use them.

Funny no one else noticed but the upper drive is NOT the same as the SCX upper. It might share some parts but looks like a completely different case. Obviously the lower is different. It does look like it will bolt onto a bravo style trans assembly like the scx.

Could someone post pics of the scx next to the "surface scx".

Thanks

Its a new drive 4inch shorty made for #6 props and it is a new upper and lower. They are testing the drive as we speak and will not release much info. i know that they said it will be around the same price as the scx drive now.

Nice to hear that it might be the same price as the current scx, and that its a complete new drive.

Thinking about it more it really is not that much of a better deal then arneson bravo conversion even at that price.

For example:

Arneson "LISTS" about $24,000 ea. (could pay less)
Includes Drive, stand off box, hydraulic steering, Trim, Transmission, transom assemblie, etc.
Needs $5000 #6 prop ea.
Can sell to recover $2-4,000 ea side my stellings boxes, transom ass, hydraulic steering, etc.
Now ALL parts on the back of my boat are NEW and TIGHT, much safer when running over 100mph!

SCX Surface Drive $13,800 (on OSO) $15,000 (on IMCO)
Includes upper and lower drive
Needs $1500 IMCO forged Gimbal ring, Helmet, fluid resovoir, $5,000 in #6 style props
Nothing left to sell just stuck with 10 year old worn out parts

Looking at $1,000-$4000 +or- difference per side. All the new parts, the proven design, less moving parts, and prob more speed increase make the arneson the winner.

I was just getting so excited since my boat currently has no drives after breaking my SC's for the last time. Been saving for the Arneson but not there yet. Could afford the SCX but only because I could use my props. Untill I added this up the new SCX surface drive was exciting me but I am back to saving my spare change. I am still excited new products are coming out which is great for our powerboat industry.

Are you shearing off prop shafts? Max machine worx has a insane billet prop shaft for bravo style lowers, I am running one a step weaker than their best one and I'm not breaking it with over1000 ft lbs of tq, mine was about 400$, there super billet one was about twice as much and they say it will easily take 1500 ft lbs. What kinda life are you getting from the merc lower gears in your sc's? Smitty
