Default Shifter Linkage Bravo X drive

Last year I deystoryed the upper gears in my bravo X drive . I replaced the drive and when putting the drive back on the linkage on top of my motor seemed to be off a little. Could this make my drive not go into gear fully or do they have them set up so they are either in gear or out ? Just wanted to make sure that my linkage was not the reason the gears where deystroyed? Was running 3/4 throttle when it came apart. Running a 496 HO with stock bravo X around 250 Hrs.

If the lower cable is out of adjustment it can cause shifting issues and wear on the brass rings and shift yoke. If you are not sure buy or borrow the tools and set the cable stop and neutral on the shift plate.
