Default Shorty on Baja Sport 250?

Getting ready to do some upgrades on my Baja. Thinking I need a -2 shorty. These old Bajas are very deep. Around 8" if I am measuring the correct way. Has anyone ever run one of these on this particular hull? What can I expect? Boat is an 89 250 ES Sport. Current hp. Is 500. Bravo 1 drive. 70.2 mph. What do you guys think?

Seems like any of the older hulls do better with a raised X. I have seen 320's and 280's that both did well with it. I would think the 250 should work well with it also.

Thanks guys, sounds like a shorty is in the making then! Seems like I had read on here somewhere that this hull needed bow lift and shortening the drive would not help with that. Therefore it was not the right move. Lil Red, your 240 looked great. Look like it was handling great. Mine doesn't handle that good, and only run 70 . Maybe the shorty will make mine do better and pick up a little bit. What do you think, maybe 2 or 3 mph. ?

Why not do a 3" up extension box? Had great results with them.

Good idea that isn't thought of very often. My only concern is the driveshaft angle when mounted up high.

i am just curious on what prop you are running to get up to 70 off 500hp? i am 50hp behind you and best of 63 gps in the same boat. i am running a mirage+ 23 at 5000rpm right now. i am adding edelbrock heads this year, hoping to get closer to that 70 mark . i am also curious to see results of a shorty or extension box on this hull. the hull is nearly identical to a 25 outlaw so keep that in mind when searching for options

If you use an imco the motor goes up 3" due to rigid shaft, stelling box has a shaft with universals and goes up 2" w/o needing to raise the motor.

Bit more work than a shorty but well worth it in the end. Gives much better leverage to carry the bow and reduces the amount of trim needed.

I have a 24 bravo 1. Works well on this hull. When I purchased this boat,it had 466 hp. 23 mirage plus like you. Best I ever did was 61 gps. Rebuilt motor with roller set up and went to the bravo 1 , 4 blade and now 70.2 gps. Motor is a 468 BBC.

I put 2 inch shortys on my 89 280 sport and picked up 5 mph. from 77 mph. to 82 mph. on gps. The handling is better at all rpm ranges to.
