Yep, Slim Shady's #6 propshaft is about 2" below the hull. You can see it in the avatar.

Boat weighs in at 4,500 lbs and the engine is in the 1,100 hp range. drive ratio is 1.34 engine RPM is 5,800-6,000 with rev limit at 6,500 I have discovered that the props for this drive can get rather pricey so I'd like to see if anyone has a good idea of where to start. I'm going to try a merc 5 blade cleaver 16% rake 18" dia 31 pitch just to see what it does. Any impute here would be great thanks

For Bill's 30' Checkmate with the Twin Turbo 1,500 hp the 3 blade prop Runs the best.
Also as I said in the earlier post, lots and lots of testing,.....the drive kept getting lower
and lower and lower.

12" Stellings Extension Box
#6 Drive DrySump / LH Rotation
Bullet is about 4.5” below the bottom of the boat
1:24 Ratio
16.5” Dia.
28” Pitch

Hey guys sorry been out of town but I read what you guys said here and I really would like to get together with you and pick your brains......
I will be out on the bay fri afternoon testing and if all looks good I will be out sat and run the fun run.
if testing doesn't go well I will be riding shotgun in my buddies 33' cougar so one way or the other I will be there.

as for the bullet mine is 1.5 below the keel now but I can add spacers to shim it lower. I'm already to install an extension box this winter too.

Ok I picked up a 28x17 4 blade and a 31x163/4 4 blade I'm still looking for a 3 blade
I have a 1.34 ratio so I'm thinking the 28-31 pitch range will be a good starting point and I know the dia can be cut down

The late Dennis Cavanaugh built Bill's three blade propeller for his 30' Checkmate.
There are allot of things that are not normal about this prop to perform the way it does.
Dennis sorted it all out.

Brett Anderson paid close attention to this prop when designed and now has all the specs on it.
Brett has also re-tuned it a time or two over the seasons

I remember it like yesterday. 1998. Dennis had a picture of that prop on his wall in his office.
We have done numerous similar builds over the years. Most have been 4 blade versions.

Thanks cougarman

Brett

Working on getting my drive height right with a 10'' #6 box with a SSM #4 drive. How did yours come out?
