Default drive height - 24 Eliminator Daytona

Need some help finding the best drive height for a friends 1991 24 Eliminator Daytona cat with single big block. Right now the prop shaft is 7.5 inches below the running surface of the center pod and the pod is level with the lowest point of the sponsons. We have already determined its way to deep and he's started the process of filling the drive hole to raise it, actually found evidence of the drive being in four other locations but who knows when and where that was lol.

current X is at about 14.3125
my thoughts are to move it up three inches giving an X of 17.3125 leaving room for a shorty drive if necessary.

boat handles like crap, bow hunts and cant seem to spin a 24 inch B1. I believe the original X of 14.3125 (that Bob Leach verified is what it would have come with) is deep due to props available at that time. Bob also suggested we might even need to go higher then the three inches the owner is considering.

Any thoughts fellas?

I assume you have to raise the motor too? I would think you would want to keep motor low as low as possible and use a shorty. Your plan sounds pretty good, if you go too high the boat might crab...which the drive can be spaced back down.

What does he have for power? I would think even with a deep x he shouldnt have a problem turning a 24.

You may want to go over to performanceboats.com as they deal with the west coast stuff all the time.
