Drive discussion: trs. 3's. And 5's
Reading thru the post lead me to this question
We know trs are stronger than bravo
Trs are older and parts are now harder to find
Some discussion on bravo boats (with 650-750 hp) led to have some say better have 3's than bravo for reliability,or even 5'
Since some guys will run away from trs for parts availability, is' nt it the same with 3's and 5'?
i fell those drives are from the same era as trs, right?
I had trs and never had a problem, but i had problems with trannies! That what i would be scared of, not the drive itself..
So who can still fix 3' and 5'? Parts available like a bravo?

Gary has pretty much anything you need for the SSM

Lots of great people that work on the drives like Collabella.

Gary posts on almost every 3,4,5 thread. Surprised people still ask about parts availability. Considering if you have a good set parts shouldn't be needed besides bearings and seals which are easily available. I'll take anything other than bravos on any boat bigger than 30'

Ok so, there is one , not even 2 parts supplier ... Luckily there is still one, but let s be honest , its not a lot of supplier!
What about for trs? Is he also the only official supplier ?

Good thread, gonna have to keep an eye on this. My 38 Scarab is getting fresh "drive killer" power that will most likely make small parts out of my standard HP Bravos so i need to start looking at real world options.
Stronger x? Bravo - yeah . . . right
SSM #3 - dont know much about them
SSM #5 - kinda high on my list
Konrads - Very high on my list, would be great for my needs.
What is the diff between 3's and 5's? just length?

I have been running SSM3s for YEARS with no issues...If these old SSM drives are put together properly and you are not running over 1000hp you wont have issues. Compared to the price of bravo XR parts and they are not hard to justify. The parts are just bigger!!!! Two SSM props weigh the same as a complete bravo. NO BRAINER!!!
