Since the engine is out ,do yourself a favor and pull out the transom assembly for the repair. The only reason I can see for doing the cobbling fix (JR) is for someone without the ability to remove engine .Once the engine is out if transom has good cut ,it can be done without removing transom assembly .....But why not install new transom seal while you are this far.....meaning, pull the assembly ..Do it once do it right ....M.O.

The JR Marine stuff is nice. Also makes it nice to be able to check for maintenance.
