Default Tie Bar 07 330ss question

Looking at adding a tie bar to my boat. Latham comes from the factory. Just contacted Latham and they want $1200 for the bar. Looked at Hardin Marine they want $500. Is there really a difference in the two other than price? Thanks for your input.

Latham makes some really nice stuff but for your application the Hardin/CP/KE piece should be adequate.

Just buy any bar on the site as long as it is long enough. They go for about 200 bucks and modify it.How many you want. The outdrives don't know what kind of bar is on them.

If you add the external bar, gotta remove the internal one. Can't run both

I've read this before but my scarab iii has both. External with saddles and the one on the inside connecting both steering tiller arms and it works without a hitch. Am I missing something?

As long as you always trim both drives the same, no problem.
When you raise one drive and not the other, big problem. Unless you have a LOT of slop in your steering pin, which both tie bars can contribute to that wear.

They work against each other. Not a good Idea to run both, wears the upper pin out faster

That sounds odd for the Bravo 3 set up. I had a tie bar added by the dealer on my 1995 280ss and it did not require removal of the inner bar. The outer tie bar had universal joints to allow for any drive height difference, etc. Really improved the sure footedness of the boat. Is this something that later model year SS boats must contend with? I have an 07 as well and purchased a tie bar for it over the winter ( nice 304 unit for $400). This is a capable dealer, so I'm wondering what's up? Thanks
