Default Possible engagement issue not sure

2000 fountain 502s black motors bravo 1. When I shift the port side motor into forward or reverse I can definitely feel a definitive engagement like a light clunk. When I shift the starboard into forward or reverse it seems to slip right in and it does make the clunk, almost cant tell it shifted into gear but it operates normal. is there something going on, or is this normal?

Are the rpm's exactly the same on both engines, or is the port side rpm higher at idle

If too many rpm at idle it will cause a clunk, that is an easy thing to check first
