Default Imco drive indicator ram question

Okay, it's been two years and I forgot where this bushing goes. Imco diagram is very helpful, but on my boat there is a 3/4" long bushing that goes on one end of the spring as a spacer. I am not sure why it is used as it isn't shown in IMCOs diagram, assuming Eliminator needed to set the neutral reading on the guage because the cable wasn't exactly right? Anyone else have this on theirs and which side did you put it on? between spring and black plastic ram or between spring and cable retainer clip? If I put it at the top (cable retainer clip) it fits over the rubber cable seal a little better than just the spring would....maybe this is why?
I'll post a pic when I get home.
