30' Cat with outboards
Do any of you have a td cat with big outboards? how does it handle and what kind of mph are you getting? Im considering trading my 28 blown cat for one, I dont really need the high mph anymore and would just like to have a Hundred mph or close to it boat. One that I dont have to do all the engine maintance on. One that I can just put into most any shop and have the plugs and oil changed. Dont need to have a special (one that knows what he doing??)high priced man do the work. Dont know if it will ever happen but Im strongly thinking about it!! Replies would be appreciated..

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
Hi Les,
I looked at buying a 28' TD with outboards before I bought what I did.
It needs to be rigged right and I only found one person who I was comfortable with and he was in Southern CA. I think it is going to take trips and I found it easier to find someone to work on my 540s than it was to work on big outboards.
I haven't seen a 30 with outboards, it would be differernt and it would hold a large amount of fuel with multiple fuel pumps.
Interesting thread though. Can't wait to see other comments.

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
Randy
Called eliminator saturday to get some prices on the boat with outboards. Talked to Jim Folley, national sales manager for eliminator, and right away he was trying to lead me away from the outboards, mentioned for me to go to 496s I told him I wasnt interested, Since Im in the sales area of Indlps he wanted me to call the dealer close to me. I told him I wasnt interested in that either.. end of our conservation!! guess that I will call DCBs,HTM,American or one of the other cat people. I like my eliminator but I liked some of the other brands of boats that Ive had in the past before eliminator came into my life..Dont know about you but I run about 39 gallons of gas a hour with my 540s and thats not running real hard..
Have you seen any outboard cats in your area?

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
Les,
The only outboards I have come across are 24' & 28' Skaters. The New DCB looks like a sharp boat. I would wait until after the first of the year and go to the LA Boat Show. We went in 2000 before buying our 28' and saw lots of cats with outboards.
Good luck and stay in touch.
Randy

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
We have a '05 26' Daytona with 300x's. Love the boat. There was a 28' Daytona(canopied boat) w/ 300x's at the Miami boat show in '04, I believe. It was sold and wound up at Lake Lanier. Heard rumors that the guy wound up going through quite a few lowers------like 6 or more, in less than a yr. Maybe too much boat to try and roll over on plane or surfacing the props too often on that choppy-ass lake. IMO a 30' Daytona is too much boat (heavy) for a pair of X's.

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
I saw two 28 skaters with outboards duel at the shootout. Ended up tying at 116 mph. Those boats ran beautifully. I was very impressed watching them run.

Les,
I would give DCB a call. They seem to offer a few boats that might fit your critera I missed seeing you at the last couple runs. Where you been all summer??

Re: 30' Cat with outboards
The 28 Outboard Cat you are referring to was sold I think by Lightning Bay Marine at St Pertersburg Fl. Call Mike Flanigan and take to him about it. it was also on the cover of Family performance Boating I believe. It was a good looking boat. San Diego Eliminator used to be the Dealer who did all of the outboard Rigging for Eliminator. You may call them. If you need some contact info I can get you hooked up with Mike.
