Well, the engines are out of my 31', one bellows was full of water, one full of oil. One cracked gimbal flange. One bell housing had a hole knocked in it that someone bondoed or JB welded. Bad U joints on one side. The transmissions are being gone through now. They were supposed to be freshly rebuilt Borg Warners. Turned out to be old Mercruisers. So far, the parts are available for what's been discovered to date.
I bought a NOS Gaffrig guage set off Ebay mounted in a Baja dash panel. White with red bezels. I picked up a red Momo wheel and billet fuel fill. I decided to delay the complete upholstery job because of all of the mechanical and glass work and I'm just having the rear bench re-covered.
The transom and stringers in the engine compartment seem to be pretty sound. Even though the alternators, carbs and distributors are non marine, the starters turned out to be marine. The carbs were also too large at 750 cfm (small blocks).
The shop working on the boat seems to be doing it in fits and starts. I called the owner today and suggested that we settle up on things as they are done. Being a contractor myself, I know how cash flow can affect the work schedule.

Not in the water yet, i cant wait. It has taken way too long to get this thing going, but thats the price you pay when using favors and freebies. We just got one motor off the dyno, made 628hp/670tq. We have also decided to run a gutted cabin for this season, there just isnt enough time to do it right and go boating all in one season. The cockpit will be upholsterd and then we should make it to the lake. Hawk40, we looked for your boat all over last year at LOTO, we were on a 24 skater. This year we are going to try to have our 40 there and would love to see yours.

Excaliburhawk40, I didn't buy the boat until October last year, the previous owner didn't run it much so not to many opportunities to see her. This year I should have her out a lot (as soon as I make it home from Vermont). Be great to see your hawk on LOTO.
