Paint over gel coat?

I have a 28ft Eliminator and are pondering a facelift.

Is new gel coat even possible or too much work?

Or is painting a boat this size a better alternative?

Will the paint really last or am I just kidding myself?

A quality Imron job will last for years.

Gelcoat is possible but it IS a lot of work. Painting is probably the best way to go.

Agree with FX that a quality Imron job will last. They only concern is that paint is significantly thinner than gel so be careful if you ever do any compound/wet sanding when detailing.

how about paint to touch up a scratch that is above the waterline of gelcoat?

Not a big fan of that...if it is minor hairline type scratched you can get some Evercoat Gel Coat Scratch Patch. If you are adventerous or have bigger scratches.gouges you can use a Match n Patch (gel past with color pigments).

Concern on using paint to touch up scratches in the gel would be adhesion of the paint.
