Heavy Oxidation

Is it possible a time comes when you can not restore the gel coat. I have tried the past couple of years with limited success. I have read several threads and never seen this addressed.

Re: Heavy Oxidation

yes there is a point where the gloss can no longer be restored. some gels get so porous with age that they can only be buffed with limited success. it depends on how the boat is kept through its life and the quality of the products used when it was made. no real exact science to it though, i had a dark gray Scorpion that would only hold a gloss for a few days, it was much easier to just paint it than try an keep the gloss on the gelcaot.

When you reach the point where buffing no longer works you can often bring the finish back with wet sanding. Take a look at the other thread going here now. TROUBLE WITH FINESSE IT II

I was Guessing when I said "Cleaner Wax" it may be the same stuff, but the bottle I used was "COLOR RESTORER" make sure you ask for that. I am going to try the cleaner wax out to see if it is the same stuff.
