Gelcoat scratch repair

I have a couple of small scratches/gouges in the gelcoat of a new boat. I have a bottle of gelcoat from the manufacturer. The scratches/gouges are not through the gel coat but are too deep to buff out. Can these be repaired without having to mask and spray on the gelcoat i. e. fill the scratch/gouge only by hand and then wet sand /buff out?

If doable what is the procedure/tricks to getting good results by the latter method?

Thanks,

Bill
