Got a Lift Slip, Now Need to Remove BOTTOM PAINT
Well I just got off the phone with the marina and a lift slip opened up and I was first on the waiting list, so I grabbed it. This is in regards to the 34 PC I bought a few months ago, not the 292. I know some will say get another boat thats not painted, but the deal I got couldn't be passed up.
What is the easiest and most effective way to remove some 2 or 3 coats of bottom paint? I'll only have to deal with this once and the performance improvement should be well worth the effort.
thanks for the insight.

There is a guy by me that uses
walnut shells in a sand blaster. It will remove the paint and not etch or damage the gel coat at all. he also works on log homes with the same method.
Down to the Hull is his company name.
I had him do a job that was not preped properly and we were able to buff it back. Very lucky.
If the boat is sanded correctly. I would try and sand and buff a sqaure foot and see if it works.

Removing bottom paint and polishing gel coat is a tough and nasty job.If boat was prepped right when first coat of paint was applied it will be even harder. We did a 41 sunseeker one time and spent over160 hours on it.Many areas needed to be re gelcoated. You really do not know what your getting into until you remove paint.Soda blasting might be your best bet but i am not sure how good of shape your gel will be after that. The performance gain of removing paint will probably be only a couple of miles per hour. Also with damaged gelcoat your bottom will stain very easily and need to be acid washed regulary. With bottom paint you do not have to full with that.Let me know if soda blast works out,we have a 40 formula ss with bottom paint also
