What is bad for moisture in the stringers? Looking at a boat with 2%, what does that mean and how much is too much?

2% is barely anything. 8 to 10 is average for boats that are regularly being used. at least thats what i am told.

Unless it pegs the meter I think you are fine. 15-20 is normal on 10 year or older boats.

Did the meter get calibrated prior to use? They should have held a special metal plate under the meter to zero it out before they used it on the boat.

mine was 800$ you can sometimes read 70% on newer baja that almost never slept in water... you can also get a 5% on a 1989 Bayliner 34 sportfish that stays in water year round. I'd say 50% is really acceptable in transom. of course less is better! you can even have 70% an it's not such a big deal on a short period of time... 70 after 3 or 5 years may turn to rot... I experienced big difference reading between some meters... as much as 60% !!! so make sure it is well calibrated, and on the fiberglass option for reading, not wood for example if you have different choices...
