There are several differerent variants of POR

http://www.por15.com/

I was looking at the Hardnose version.http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?grp=HN&dept=5 I like having a primer, if the topcoat chips there is still some level of protection.

Since this is a rediculously tight install where things have to be bolted together after they are pieced into the bilge I need something TOUGH.

Chris, not sure how white engines in a white bilge would look.

It will break down and peel off with direct Florida sun.

Invisible at first, then most likely kinda' scroungy (white shows everything) and I would expect that the heat will start to yellow it after a while.

Never tried it on an engine block but I did some axles and a frame on my hillbilly truck i did an SFA on. Prepped everything per the instructions and rust still came through, had two coats on the frame and at least three on the axles. Not worth the money IMO.

My engine builder swears by it and is trying to talk me into it.

For the cost of POR 15, I would go with AWLGRIP instead.

Lot more color choices, tough as nails, fuel and oil will not stain it. Boat engines run cool enough...........

Didn't know they had a specific engine enamel.
Thats why we used it. Por 15 is the name in rust prevention. I just can't recomend their engine paint anymore. It lasted as long as rattle can paint.

I used it on polished valve covers and they developed corrosion spots within a year. It was a waste of money and time.

I have used por15 on several things and thought it held up great. I did the rusty ass frame on my old Jeep J20 and the rust hasn't came back in 5 years. I used it on the subframes and long rms on my Grand Cherokee 4 years ago and it still isn't chipped or rusting. I would think it would hold up well on the engine, it shouldn't get very hot anyway.

Has anybody tried their yacht top coat marine paint?
POR claims High solid, low solvent and the more exposer POR has to moisture (water) the harder it gets...

Thumbs up

I have used por 15 for around ten years restoring old mopars. I have had excellent results. This is some bad stuff. Now with that said I have had a few instances where paint had peeled off. The reason it had peeled was because of surface prep. Part in question was brand new floor pans and trunk. Por15 likes to have something to bite on. Research on the product will tell you this. I used there chemical wash and roughed up the surface well with 220. Put por15 on, used there special primer on top of that and then base coat/clear coat. No problem since. Must use their primer over por15 cause reg. primer will peel off.
I would think that if block was cleaned well it would adhere, but your still going to have to cover with something because it will fade quick. Sensitive to UV rays. They don't have colors but black in por15 rust preventive paint. They do have a semi and gloss black in their "chassis black" paint that goes directly over the rust preventive paint with out priming. Again excellent results, cannot scratch the stuff off. You will see how hard and tenachous this stuff is if you open a can and get the smallest amount around the lid and hammer shut. You will not open the next day. At car shows alot of dealers will give you 2 short lag bolts with each can . You put one on one side of lid and the other on side of can opposite. You break open with wrench and pour out hole.
