Will Carbon Fiber bond with plastic?
Forgive my TOTAL ignorance on glass and resin knowledge, I'm looking to replace my dash plate on my PQ 260. I had a thought of going to a plastics shop, and having them copy the original plate in a purple color, but I love the look of the purple carbon fiber, so I was wondering would it be possible just to have them make a clear plastic copy and then put the purple carbon on top? Would the resin to adhere to it? Or do I need to do a mold and plug and make it completely out of glass with the purple carbon fiber on top?

Is it a flat piece? mold and plug will give you the best finish. If you use epoxy it should be ok with the plastic but i would do a test spot first. Problem with doing moldless with epoxy is there isnt much of a way to fair out the surface and get the smooth high gloss. With poly you can use clear Silmar resin and finish the surface with gel coat but you cannot use that over plastic. mold and plug is the way to go for a nice quality piece.
There may be other techniques i am unaware of though. you see all kinds of cool chit in some of those crazy high end car stereo installations so maybe someone else will chime in with something. good luck.

I thought a while back, some one was selling carbon fiber sheets in different colors? I think you might be able to find a shop that could laminate the sheet in all carbon fiber for you, depending on your thickness requirements?
Thank you

The same place sells the colored carbon fiber fabric, that's where I was looking to purchase.
Its just plain laminate with a carbon fiber'esque look to it.
