Your right on that transom. We already reglassed a new one in a few years ago just to get it out on the water.
I was thinking of leaving the drain holes to go to the bilge to be pumped out.
Im still questioning about raising a long shaft throwing off the center of gravity.
Where did you order your foam from?
Thanks for the advice.

I Flipped the one owned by Gil Marine while him and Brownie where standing on the seawall watching. A Few dudes from the Cig plant came out to help me get it back down to Cougar. They all came with 25hp, they are not a good turning boat to begin with so raising the motor will make it worse. I'd set it up to be fast and fun going straight and be careful in the turns. we used to take 5 or more of them out every weekend and terrorize the miami waterways, we have stuffed them, flipped them pretty much every way possible, leave your valubles back at the truck, it's gonna get wet. I was the lucky one who got to pull the drain plug and sit in the boat until it totally filled with water and NOT Sink to get the Coast Gaurd Cert, the powerhead was still above the water so we fired it up and hit the gas, after about 5 min it was empty enough to get on plane.

My Cougar Cub 50 hp 3 cyl Yamaha 15" short shaft 18 pitch prop with no jackplate, smart tabs to help planing. Moveable portable gas tank to optimize CG while running. Reinforced transom and deck to hull joint, waterlogged flotation material replaced.
54 GPS, faster into wind with light chop.

I think smart tabs are trim tabs that just have spring rams instead of hydraulic rams.
I just picked up a used set of hydraulic tabs from Ebay to put on the cub to help it plane down. It needed something to bring the nose down when taking off.

How did the smart tabs work for you?
Did you have any flex in the middle floor between the sponsons?
Did you put flotation back in? Did you use a 2 part mix?
54 is moving sitting that close to the water. Nice

Smart Tabs by Nauticus, 1-800-233-0194. Buy the smallest size with the lightest actuators, might have to add manual retraction system depending on load/cg and speed. My boat with reinforcements and flotation is heavy at 320# bare hull only, over 500# with engine and fuel tank, etc. Hull is very solid if flotation material is added between floor and tunnel.
Flotation material used a combination of 2 part, great stuff,
and inflatable flotation bouy/marker can also be used.
There are some videos on youtube of various cubs and thier restorations/modifications.
Reinforce the transom and engine mounting area if you are going to run a large engine, originaly rated at 15-25hp.

I have added a removable windscreen to mine, boat tends to sneeze at speeds below 30mph. Ride is drier at 40 and much fun and dry at higher speeds.
