Glass Dave, In an earlier reply you suggested gel coat with Deratec additive for my new transom and to refinish the bilge. I ordered a gallon of each and I am going to tackle the gel coat about mid week this week. The guy from US Composites said to mix them 50 - 50.

You mentioned “You have to sort of nurse it as its curing and only have a small window to stack it up while its going off. Its sort of like tipping Allgrip". I guess I have never used Allgrip and I am not sure what is meant by "tipping".

Should I start of working on maybe a 12" x 12" square or maybe a 2' x 2' area? How long will I have to work with it? Do i mix it in small amounts, maybe a pint size mixing cup? Any help would be very very appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I would not go 50/50 on the duratech. I would go more like 75 gell to 25 durratech.

yep, what Jon said. unless you are trying to spray through an automotive type gun you never need to thin it that much. Actually if you were wanting to cover it up pretty good you might want to do a couple coats. The first ones go on without Duratech, only the last one gets the additive, fills better and will allow you to recoat without sanding. Again it depends on how much fill you need, if you want to really fair it out add Duratech to all coats and sand between.

Thumbs up stainless marine headers

hey if you guys have not cut out your exhaust yet I have a set of stainless marine gen 2s they have the long tail pipes out the transom and are about 4'' taller than stock merc, so on my baja I was above the water line with the openings a extra 4'' they have the 1'' piss tubes inside the transom that go out dumps and a lil water goes out the end, there what most guys call dry set up I need to go to 5'' with the new motor so I will be posting these for 1200 in the swap. hey they kept my transom dry second time around no rubber clamps and sound sweet. I start my bulkhead in a few weeks and I might move my stringers out so I can use l brackets racing motor mounts, stock stringers are on top of motor mounts most other brands are 5 or more inches apart if my stringers are gone hope not I will run one all the way up front like sutphen does and cut bulkheads around them, that seems stronger my buds 26ft sutphen feels so much more stiffer than my 24ol and he said its the stringer design and I need that with a 1050 1100hp motor going in, well good luck.

i think we are good on exhuast, we both have gil setups but thanks. i got the front stringers last night from plywood and they look great, i am glad i didnt use the 2x10s like the factory! i need some opinions. the original stringers were seperated in the back by a bulkhead and the rear stringers are closer together making the motor mounts sit on top of the stringers, i have heard this is not the best way to do it? at this point it would not take much to order some offshore brackets and lengthen my front stringers to go all the way to the transom, is this a bitter way to go? i need to measure some stuff when i get home to see if that will even work but it hink it will. any suggestions or opinions?

Here is regalmans stringers. I think the offshore mounting would be a better deal all together. The stringers that he is thinking about running all the way back to the transom are the ones on the left and right side of the gas tank. I think, they are almost in the right location; he just needs to run them the rest of the way back instead of stopping them at the rear bulkhead and picking up with stock motor mount stringers. I say go for it man.

His setup looks similar to mine. Looks like his drive is just as deep as mine was too. The problem with moving the stingers further out with such a low X is that he is going to have very little meat the attach the offshore mounts to.

I spaced mine 26 inches inside spacing, not using offshore mounts but will use a piece of angle AL and the stock mounts sitting on top of the L. But I'm also going up 3 inches on the X too. I think my new engine stringers are just under 9" tall, give or take a little bit.

I have planned on doing my bulkhead just hope its not the stringers too and I didn't start it cause if comp saw me going in and out of the boat a lot which I can't do cause of the knee not being healed. but I am getting off comp in two weeks so once I am in the boat it will be until I am done cutting grinding and if I do climb out a few times who cares then. I will have to remove the floor in the bilge that got fixed in a rush in 01 and will be done over. so I hope to have mine done in one to two weeks time we will work on it all day everyday until its done can't wait to see picks.
