Yellowing of gelcoat

Was looking over the cockpit of boat in the new lighting I just installed and noticed that gelcoat was faded or yellowed quit a bit more than I thought. Can I bring the original color back? If so what is best method?

If not what is best corse of action? Paint?

I had same problem on lite gray gelcoat. I was told it was old wax that was yellowing. Boat is 20+ yrs. old with original gel. The only way I could bring it back was wet sanding then buffing. What a huge differernce when done!

What grit did you start with and then finish too? Then I assume rubbing compound and polishing compound?

Long story short, I won't tell you what I did because it was wrong. I started with a grit that was too course. Do a search on here. Donnie at Leverage has a thread posted here about the right way to do it.
