Anyone powdercoated hand rails and grab handles on boat? Got pics?

Thinking of powdercoating some of the hand rails and grab rails on my boat. Was wondering if anyone had done this and how it hed up? Can you still tie bumpers off the the rails with out eatting up the finish?

The previous owner of my boat powdercoated everything on the boat that was stainless white, you may have seen it as I was n Harmon both Friday & Saturday 32 fountain all white w/black stripes black fountain across the fairing, anyhow I feel like finding the guy & kicking him n the nuts.... Some places it looks great other places absolutely terrible on the bow rails it has all but completely flaked off just 1 Lil spot left, handrails & things n the cockpit looked good but again it's all starting to flake off, Whoever owned it even had the cleats coated they have since yellowed a Lil & there's no getting it back to plain white, That & none of it seems to match up with the white of the boat...but I have also read up about coating there's several ways it can be done, guess it's just like anything some people are great @ it & others suck.... Your boat being white & assuming you'd go with white I'd stay away from it

I was actually going to do ky blue... I remember seeing your boat there it looked good! My buddy Darin bean paints boats and has an all white with no graphics or nothing. He was down there to. From a distance I thought it was him at first. These guys are supposed to be pretty good at powder cooating. They do every factory around our areas products. Might try a peice and play with it to see how it does. I deffinitely wasn't going to do cleats

Thank you! Yours looked good as well.... From what I've read the prep for coating & if it's done right it can last for quite a long time, from seeing my boat & others with white powder coating I'd stay away... I've actually been looking into getting all new Colored grab rails & things in my cockpit but can't decide on what color would go with my interior

Where it is flaking off, what does the finish look like? If it is not scuffed or sanded and left polished or smooth it will peel off in chunks once it gets a nick.

If you have anything redone or change color...be sure they media blast everything first. Also make sure they use a coating with UV protectants. Without it the parts begin to yellow or change color.

Wow! Thank you for the detailed reply I will check with them. I'm guessing some hard core sand blasting is the read trick since it's polished aluminum I beleive or stainless.... Not sure

I done the rails and both grab handles, I tie my fenders off mine and no problem. The problem i'm having is the powdercoat is chipping off were the mount slides thru the rail.

I cleaned up baddly pitted hand rails on a old 30 ft sea ray using industrial shrink tubbing. you can get it in a few different shades. it was about 3/32" thick shrunk up. that was 10 years ago and it is still mint. the owner is still amazed at how well it has held up. you have to get the thick stuff tho.
just another option
cheers
