Jeff, come on up to LOTO this week and I'll let you show me how to do it correctly....

I've bought Leverage, it seems to work pretty good but I need an expert to show me....

BOATLESS
The best quick fix you'll get on a daily basis is Greez Off. Hose your boat down, cover the transom with greez off, let it sit for 5 minutes then wipe off with the rag and spray it down again. Worked for me everytime. Leverage oxidation remover works well as well.

Rob,

Painting mine has helped a bit with the clean-up. Also, no more iron stains on teh transom at the end of the season... I found if I clean it as soon as I get back to the dock it stays clean.

The last weeks I used the boat I was in a rush and didn't have time to completely soap down the transom so the soot dried and I coudln't get it off with soap/water or spray-nine. When I got the boat back to my house I waxed it and it all off and cleaned up nicely!

One thing I noticed is the paint "show's" soot a little more than the gel did but that may be because the paint is much shinier than the gel was back there. In hindsight I would have painted the transom a dark color.

You could try using some Gel Gloss. Its a bathroom cleaning product that also has wax in it. Its great for cleaning fiberglass showers and onyx sinks. You have to wipe it or spray it on and then wipe it off. a freind used to use it on his boat all the time.

Clorox Clean UP is also a great grease and soot cutter. You can just spray it on and scrub a little and rinse off.

Spectro XL-1 motorcycle wash. Soot melts off and doesn't bother the wax.

Also works well on removing the brake dust on my trucksaluminum wheels.
