soda blasting
Can this be done with a regular sand blaster, or does it require a more involved piece of equipment with dryers?
Is this baking soda?
I'm wanting to remove the antifouling paint on my boat, and possibly the barrier coating also so to start off with a clean slate, and then recoat after some bottom work.
Thanks

You can not use soda media in a sandblasting unit. It requires different equipment, pressure, hoses, tip etc. Using soda blasting is less likely to cause damage to fiberglass than sandblasting.
Here is where you can get the best bottom paint and barrier coat.
Good luck with your project!

There is a conversion kit available for this . I have been Media blasting for over 25 years and my recommendation is to hire someone to Soda blast this for you . Go on Craigslist and find someone . I say this because Soda material is big money and by the time you master it you would have spent twice what it would have cost to simply hire someone

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I looked up the cost to rent a blaster, compressor and priced the media. W/O knowing how much soda I'd need, and with no local supplier that carry it to buy as I need, I think that it is outta my scope. I'll check the Craigslist, and explore using strippers. The issue is I'm being loaned a trailer for the weekend to get the boat home and inside, then it'll be on blocks. So whatever I do, it'll have to be done here.
jtanner, what makes that brand the best? I've been leaning towards going with Interlux products. This is all a 1st, so no experience with any of it.
Thanks

Alot of Soda guys are mobile. I had a guy come do my bottom for $150 an hour. Took him about 2 1/2 hours from set-up to clean-up. Turned out great. I've done 3 boat bottoms and this is by far the quickest, easiest and cheapest in the long run. Where are you located?

What size and type boat did you have this done for the 2 1/2hr time frame? I contacted a local business today that can do it and am hoping to have their estimate tommorrow. Not that it matters though since they are the only local business that does it, going to have them do it anyways.

28 Saber. It was just on the bottom. It didn't come up the sides or the transom.
