Painting carbs

I would like to paint my carbs. Spoke to Holley about it since they offer it as a service know but there cost was crazy, almost as much as new carbs. Has anyone painted there carbs? What did they use? How did they you do it? Step by step??

I have painted a couple. used zinc chromate primer then sealer primer(real light coat) then touch-up gun and automotive urethane paint. seems to resist gas pretty well

I had Nickerson paint mine when they were there this spring but it turned out like crap.... not sure if it was in their process or what but the fuel I guess has just ruined the paint... looks like crap now. I would pass on the paint.

Make sure that the tune up is complete before you do it. Then make sure that you completely drain everything. clean really REALLY well. I use the acid etching primer out of the spray can. Automotive base/ clear works well. I use a touch up gun so that I can get a nice pattern and get it to flow out.

I have terrible luck with the merc paint etc, it hates fuel.

As long as the clear cures out long enough before you re install them, I have had some carbs stay beautiful for a long time. THe clear coat helps to resist the fuel.

Make sure that the surface is as smooth as possible.

I usually send them to the rebuilder after I tune them in. He takes them apart and puts them in the cleaning solution and then re assembles them back the way they were before they were taken apart. THat way they are like brand new and the paint always sticks.

Good luck.
