Default Transom Recut

I have a leak on my transum from the seal, blockoff plate, hose, not sure yet ??? I am going to pull the drive and engine in December. While I have it all apart I would like to raise the drive about 3". The drive is currently at 8" that would put me at 5". Anyway I may attempt to do the glass work myself. I have not made that desision yet. I am looking for advice from anyone that has done this before? If I deside to pay to have it done does anyone know a good shop in the St Louis Metro area?

certainly a do able project, just make sure the existing transom is in good shape (dry/solid). Its ambitious but well within the ability of most mechanically inclined do it yourselfers.

sent ya a PM

If you decide to do it yourself, listen to Glassdave. He knows what he is talking about. I replaced my complete transom last winter / this spring and I could not have done it with out him. He is a cool dude and knows his stuff. I trust him 150%.

yep, less drag and better props to choose from. The less of anything dragging in the water the better.

Glassdave really takes the time to help and advice, although i've yet to get under way with my transom, Dave advised
and answered all my e-mail questions and took the "scary"
out of it.

Unless the transom needs repair and not just the leak fized, wouldn't it be easier to just put a shortie lower on it? 3" is alot to raise and then have no way to bring it back down if it's too high. Besides then the engine needs to be raised also changing exhaust ect. More involved than just glassing in and cutting a new hole. Hatch clearance issues too. Just my 2cts.

I can only go up about 3", then I get clearance issues. In case you havent checked shortie drives are not cheep. Maybe somday Imco will realized there lowers are not made of solid gold and lower the price. I took a pole most everyone is running 5" or less, I should not have planing issues.
