I have just finished spraying my hull with 2k epoxy primer, unfortunately i did not have a filter on my suction fed gun, question is i need to sand/flatten out small lumps of dirt,i was using 800 grit wet or dry for this, but will this leave the primer to smooth for 2k topcoat, thanks for the help so far,?????

800 is way to fine for anything thats going to be painted, I wouldnt go much finer then 400 if you are trying to level the surface. If you only need to knock out the nibs of dust and stuff try 600. What kind of primer is it? The 2K's i use are high build urethanes not epoxies.

Hi gassdave, the primer i used is just a standard 2k high build epoxy that i purchased from the automotive shop,I shotbast and paint plant and machinery as a day job and enjoy tinkering with boats from time to time,I have only sprayed the epoxy primer below the waterline, next is the finish 2k topcoat ,not ideal below the waterline i know but new gelcoat is not an option, should i use 2k acrylic for topcoat as i believe it is much harder than polyeurathane 2k???/cheers.

what brand ant type of paint are you using? Below the waterline is fine for in the water part time. I prefer single stage paints like PPG's Concept or even Imron.
I'm busy doing this one at the moment. Kind of outside the normal stuff for me but its for a good customer. Using a 100% epoxy system on it. Sixty footer
