Glassing in cockpit Floor ?

I'm sure someone has ask and answered this question several times but here it is again !
I'm glassing in the floor of my boat so I can paint it like the newer boats . I have cleaned and sanded the plywood and precut the cloth . Do I wet the plywood with resin before I lay down the cloth or can I just poor it on top and roll it out ?

Yes you should pre wet the surface and let it sit for just a bit before laying down the fiberglass. You want the wood to soak up some of the resin on its own otherwise it could pull it out of the laminate causing dry spots. Try not to just pour it out on the surface, you wont be able to control wet out ratio very well. Brush and roll it in evenly, thick wet laminates tend to be weak.

I would just go with Pirelli or Lonseal flooring.

true that is some cool stuff.

JoeCC you'll be able to see the overly wet spots. Just try to make it even and where you can still see the wetted fibers at the surface, not sure if thats the best description but you just dont want any pooling.

I see no reason why you can't put it over bare glass. The glass/resin is really just to seal the wood in the floor. Painting it is just for looks.

Slippery when wet!
Some Resins cure leaving a tacky surface I would give it a Acetone wipe to remove that then a light sanding. If you are going to glue a finished surface like Pirelli down to the cockpit sole. Use a paint roller for the resin then a good rollout.
