Default What's the best way to support a boat well repairing?

I was wondering what the best way is to support a boat well repairing. I will be replacing the stringers and most of the wood in the hull. I think my transom is good.

I would not take out all the stringers at one time. If you look for it I have a thread about replacing the stringers on mine. What kind of trailer do you have? Bunk or roller?

can you build a wooden rack to support the bottom of the boat evenly,we used to glass in the stringers and bulkheads while the hull was still in the molds to keep everything straight and true

Evenly supporting the boat down the length of the chine for about 10 feet and than supporting the bow with some evenly spaced blocks down the keel before you cut everything out should keep the boat in shape until you put it back together.

Run a straightedge down the bottom before you glass the stringers in. If you have a big hook in it you may have to get a piece of angle or something straight and runsome screws or even small bolts through it to pull the bottom down and back into shape until you have the stringers in.

If the bottom has a big belly in it and is sagging down a careful blocking and checking will remove this before you lamainate the stringers in.

I could build a rack but I don't know if I would be able to get the boat in it. I might try to lift the boat on the trailer and build a rack off the trailer to the boat so i can still move it around too. What do you guys think about that?

On a boat that I did a long time ago I also had a roller trailer. I was able to take 2X12's and make bunks out of them that sat on the cross braces for the trailer. I do not have any pictures sorry. I jacked up the boat a little bit and took out the rollers then put the bunks in. That way we could still move the boat around.

A supportive bunk trailer or cradle system would be best. Jamie
