The factory non-skid in the Intrepid needs to be replaced. I was feeling up for a little do-it-yourself Spring project and measured the area and did my research on materials.

90 square feet and the $55.00 in Interlux materials later I got lazy. There is a silly amount of detailed taping required for all the pieces in the flooring. So I asked my shop to give me a quote on doing it. They said a full week and at least $3K to sand down everything, prime & prep (significant of prep/taping) and then apply the non-skid. Otherwise just cleaning and applying it is a seasonal fix.

My questions are what have you guys typically done to replace yours and is this price in-line with industry norms?

Appreciate any help. Need to make a decision in the next day or so.

Non skid can be some tricky stuff and it does require some tedious labor. For it to be done proper and permanent it should be completely removed and replaced. If you try to "spot it" it ends up non uniform and throws the visual appearance off. Non skid is one of those things i dread doing as there are really no shortcuts and if you screw it up you have to go back to square one. How big and what kind of boat do you need done? Also is the current non skid a molded in the gel pattern/texture or rolled on by the manufacturer?

Thank you very, very much. It is rolled on by Intrepid. Your comments are basically verbatim what I was told. It is a 323 center console and the area to be addressed is 90 square feet.

What about something like the glue down decking? Then you could just sand downt he rough stuff and glue down the new stuff?

PS a nice trick for great non skid is to use sugar or salt. Just roll out the gell and then sprinkle on the sugar. Do some tests to get the correct consistance of gel and sugar but it works extreamly well. Old surfboard trick.

That actually does sound like a good idea, i have often wanted a softer non skid for a few applications.
