After seeing this tread, I bought the Flex XC3401 random orbital kit a few weeks ago. Did my boat last week. Man I sure like this buffer. Wish I would have had it years ago.

Just wanted to keep you guys posted.
Dewalt just came out with a brand new model
DWP849X-7 inch 9 Inch variable speed, with soft start.
Weight 7 pounds with wool ingestion shields.
Looks really nice Amazon has them.
Looks like they copied the Makita.

Default Use Makita rotary polisher

I won a Makita 9227 C on e bay for 125 dollars.
Ran but had no variable speed control, and that is why I acquierd it. I e mailed the guy and he gave me full credit for the machine. Said not worth my aggrivation or his to ship it around. I tossed on new brushes, speed control, cord, and switch, WHAT A NICE MACHINE.

Milwaukee mine is 1979 Vintage and has buffed many boats as my brother used it for his boat detailing business for years before giving it back to me.

I'll second that! Spent close to 20 hours this weekend with a DeWalt, yellow will hold up! Question is can you? I need a lighter unit, too old and too tired to manhandle the beast anymore. The Flex lightweight is looking like a real bargain!

Dave,

So, did you order the new Flex rotary? If you did, how do you like it? I bought the Flex 3401 instead (since I do most of my detailing on cars, not boats) and it's very nice.

I use a Makita almost every day. I have never had a problem with it! my mother has been using makita buffers for a long time now, she has dropped one in the water and picked it out days later, let it dry, and it still ran for years until it ran into a chord problem which was quickly fixed. i wouldnt bother with another brand.

side note my makitas name is 'jimmy buffer' because personality matters!
