Hi, my friend has a seadoo with a little damage. I can help with epoxy, but I have no experience with vinylester or polyester or gelcoat. I would like to learn the process now that I have about 15 gallons of epoxy experience under my belt.

So, can we use epoxy on this area? It needs to be built up a little before the gelcoat.

For the gel, I've read quite a bit about duratech(?) what's the process here?

Ok we read that epoxy is actually best suited for this job. I mixed him up a paste of 635+cabosil+1/4" chop until it was thick as peanut butter. the thickest part of the repair is about 1/4" thick. If that was a mistake please let me know.

For the gelcoat I found this nifty tutorial... it has some negative feedback though.

to be honest you couls have got some gel paste with wax and mixed color into it and smeared over the damaged area,then let it then wetsand and block it..

keep in mind you will not be able to use gelcoat over that epoxy without some sort of barrier coat.

oh crap, we were under the impression the gel would stick to the epoxy.

Problem is there is an amine blush that is released by the epoxy and that will inhibit the cure of the polyester gel. There are some barrier coats that are available but they will most likely not be cost prohibitive. I hate to say this, and sorry i did not jump on the thread earlier, but at this point it will be easier to grind off what you have and start over with poly (if you want to use gel). You could also do the color in a single stage urethane like PPG's Concept since it will not be kept in the water.

Would it help if i used the non-blushing hardener? or does all epoxies have the amine?
