Default glassing the cockppit floor to the hull???

Moving along on my project after some delays and wondered if it was a good idea to glass the cockpit floor to the sides of the hull. currently there is about 3/4" of a gap from bulkhead to bulkhead. Didn't really notice the space on each side until I gutted the boat/carpet, etc. Wondered if the boat manf. didn't fiberglass that area due to drainage??? Not really sure other than the ease of removing the floor. My thought was to go ahead and glass the area however dill some holess throught the new glass before laying new carpet down for drainage if any as well as to let it breath.

thanks,
John
keep in mind this is a 78 spectra I'm restoring. Not really surem what the norm was back then.
