If you leave the galvanizing on you can go over it with a good self etching primer and then paint.

...is the industrial paint I used on my galvanized Mini Hawk trailer. It's been incredibly durable. The trailer is now stored outside, and aside from dirt, it looks as good as the day I painted it a couple years ago.

It comes in white which is tintable.
I think it was $60 bucks for the gallon.

That said, I probably would have had it powder coated for $300 bucks.

I ended up spending the same money buying my own painting sized compressor, and paint gun. I plan to paint my mud truck with the same stuff in the spring.

You need to be careful with "self etching primers", the "etch" is acid, zinc/ galvanize dissolves easily in many acids. Initial adhesion may be ok but down the road you will have a failure. Painting galvanized surfaces is standard business int he commercial world. Read the product data sheet. If the epoxy primer dose not specifically say this product can be used over galvanize do not do it, that also includes many automotive epoxies. The difference is that some epoxies may absorb a small amount of water and reinitiate the acids, same thing can happen with alkyd paint.

"Self etching" can be bennificialy for steel and aluminum, but not always.

BTW, James does powder coating and industrial coatings for a living. He used to race an aluminum boat.

He knows what he is talking about! . I'd use him more often if he didn't put the Coors Light logo in all of his work!
