What type of vinyl for marine graphics?
I am planning to update the look of my old boat - planning to remove some lettering from the side of the hull and cover it with some mild graphics. I have been reading a little bit about the different grades and brands of vinyl used for the graphics - calendered versus cast, brands like 3M, Avery, etc. I just thought I would poll some of the experts on here and ask their thoughts. This is a boat that spends most of its time in the garage, so exposure to the elements should be minimal, but I don't want to end up with something that shrinks, peels or fades after a few years.
Also looking forward to hearing from those of you who have had vinyl graphics applied - good and bad stories, and please include the type and brand of vinyl that was used, how long it has been on the boat, etc.
Thanks!

Use cast, or high performance vinyl only. In addition to higher quality, more flexible and formable properties, the adhesive is higher quality as well.
Generally, the cast vinyl has a 5-8 year guarantee. Fading will not be a problem for you if the boat is kept out of the sun when not in use.
3M is a bit pricey but worth it. Have had good luck with Oracal as well. With boats, surface prep is important. Don't wax it before you take it to the sign shop!
