Thanks again and I will let you know how this hunk of crap runs raised up 3 inches and I think others might be curious as well

pallett wood is unfinished. a 2x4 is exactly that size. that may well be the case with the orig wood in the stringers. when fixing the box on an old camper i had i had to use pallett wood cause it was only wood the same size. oak doesn't like water, but then unless you are gonna use teak...
