Drilled a 1/2" hole about 3/4" into the transom about 4"s horizontally from where the water had gotten in. The wood was dry, flaky (not like dust), and did not smell. Color was also still "blonde". This was the only area accessible that could be hidden with rigging as was suggested. Anyone see a need to go further?

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

their too many answers,,i do the tapping method also,,you can head the hollow spots..if you have access at exposed wood the pick will go in like you were poking Styrofoam if it was bad..it the tabs are through bolted you would not be able to tighten them to the transom with out compressing the fiberglass...
