New Imron Marine vs. PPG Concept
Hello,
I am getting ready to paint my boat all white and was sold on the PPG concept after reading through the forum. I called my local vendor and they say body shop price is $330\gal for the paint and $112 a qt for the catalyst. I did some research and I can get the Imron marine MS600 for almost half. Does any one have any first hand experience with the MS600. I have used Imron quite a bit on airplanes with good luck. Thanks for the help.

Cannot comment on the PPG, but we to were going to use ppg, then awl craft, then decided to go with Imron. So far it has been nice to us, we still are in the process of sanding and buffing, but I do know that it is some durable paint for sure.

i've never used imron but i painted my little searay with concept over ten years ago and it still looks great. it looks quite a bit like gel which i like.
i too, was surprised at the cost increase as of late. i think i paid around 200 a gallon and 60 for catalyst in 2001. inflation, i suppose.

Save the $ and go with Imron. I have used both and feel the Imron is more durable.

New to the forum, doing a similar project...any advise on prep work of the hull, are there any repairs that need filler and if so what type? Finally, what primer are you using?

Used 3m premium filler on alot of the repairs. For primer we used keystone platinum 3 in 1. Some of the nicest sanding primer we have used. You prep it the same way you would doing a car, make sure the areas you are priming and painting are wiped CLEAN with wax, grease remover or something of that nature. Also make sure you remove a little more then the damaged area in case there is loose glass or paint in a small surrounding area. Used allot of Imron over the years.
Personally like Awlgrip.........
Exspecially if your under the water line for more than a weekend. Imron and other will blister, Imron usually returns to shape after it's dried out again.
Awlgrip does not blister and it's epoxy based paint.
I Also like Awlgrip for the engine bay and engines.
With fuel's, oils etc. it does not stain because it is
epoxy based.
Imron will stain with these conditions.
In the end all 3 paints are great, just depends if you want to
spend the money up front for the long term benifits
Or spend the money over time with possible maintance
of the product.

Thanks, the fact that you cannot cut and polish awlgrip is steering me away. I know in my environment it will be impossible to keep dirt out.
As far as imron, what white are you guys using. I see they have several prepackaged whites. I want a good clean white that isn't blinding bright. I see the ppg 91050 is recommended, anyone know an imrom equivalent in prepackaged color?
