Default Hull repair

I have gouges caused by rocks in my hull. The area in question is 16"x18'. I have received a quote of $4,200.00 to repair. This seems excessive to me. Am I off base?

The boat is dry stacked, so the quote is from the marina. Unfortunately, no pictures. Since they have protected services, it is hard to figure out if the price is fair.

You have a nice boat we dock at the same marina and I question there prices too. We have 4 little indentations from that hail storm last july, they gave me a quote of 600+ dollars. We have friends with 12 plus indentations and chips who got a 400$ quote and another friend with what he told me was a 5' long gouge down the side of his boat that they fixed for 200$. Yea I wonder about their pricing too.

That is the problem when you keep your boat at a marina. If I do like their pricing, I have to have it picked up and sent elsewhere. I actually did that last year. I lost a blower they did not want to deal with it, so I had the boat loaded up and sent to a local mechanic. While it was there, in appreciation, I had them take care of other items.

Sounds like a 'we really don't want to do it, so if you want us to, you're gonna pay' quote.

Althought it would depend on their scope of work as well, and how they intend to go about the repair.
