Default My transom cut out... what epxoy?

I have a 89 Powerplay Integra and I am swapping my transom assembly with a new one. I also just recently re-painted the whole bilge and now at the cut out... So I sanded down the cut out and would like to seal it up and strengthen if possible. What resin would you use for this? How does the condition of the wood look to you? Seems like the wood could dry out a little in my opinion and thought about putting a heat lamp on it for a bit.

I always band the edge in a layer of fiberglass. True it up by hand with some 36 grit and just glass on about a two and a half inch piece of 1708 (or even mat) I have some reference pics I can post tomorrow. The manufacturers usually just brush on resin but I think that method is to superficial.

Also if you are using an epoxy with 1708 put the woven side down instead of the mat (opposite with poly) and you only need one layer. Technically you should be using 1700 no mat bi ax but since you are using just one layer you can just put the mat side up.

to make it easier try and do one side of the hole at a time. I carefully cut two strips about two feet long using a razor blade and straight edge, scissors make a mess out of a piece this narrow. Lap up one side at a time and overlap the bottom across the width of the horizontal part at the bottom. My thoughts are its tough to do the whole band in one piece so may as well double up on the most vulnerable part, the bottom edge.Couple tips, test fit your transom assembly and make sure you have room for about an eight inch of glass and if you are using epoxy its not a bad idea to add a little Cabosil to the mix to help keep the piece in place till it cures either way you can also wet out the strip on a piece of cardboard then apply it (cleaner and easier)

Dave did this to my drive cutouts and my exhaust holes when he did my transom. Leaves a really finished look.
