General rule of thumb is 25% thicker than the wood that was used before.
So, if your hatch was 3/4 inch plywood then use 1 inch and so on and so forth.

I use 3/4 for most deck and hatch stuff, 3/4 is much easier to find supports good loads. Airex in the four or five pound range with a good Vinylester resin. If it is flat have you thought about Coosa or SAC panals?

what series Airex is it? Baltek is great for hatches because the panel ends up much stiffer, just have to take care with edges and through bolts.
