Transom plate on boat w/ Stellings
Hi Guys,
I pulled the inspection cover on the stellings extension boxes on my boat (used to be Corey's boat.) The boxes are in the highest hole (lowest box position.) The issue with raising the boxes appears to be that the plate on the inside of the transom that the drive shaft passes through has too small of a diameter. It appears that by raising the box, that the drive shaft will interfere with the plate. I'm wondering if the plate is a standard Mercruiser plate, but maybe Stellings has a different plate that they use that would give more room for the drive shaft to move up and down as the box is adjusted on it's 3 mounting positions.
I plan to do some measurements to confirm whether or not the drive shaft would interfere as the box is raised over the weekend.
Anyone interested in pulling their Stellings inspection cover and shooting a couple of pics of the plate to post?
Thanks,
Garrett

The current install has the driveshaft straight as an arrow out of the engine into the drive. If the engine was any lower the extension box would be hanging below the hull step in the back.

Re: Transom plate on boat w/ Stellings
Some info for my original question. I think I solved this one.
The boat has the stock Bravo transom plates which has a nice drive shaft loop to keep the shaft in place in case a Ujoint fails. It has an opening above the shaft and below the shaft for the variety of other cables and hoses.
A Stellings transom plate has only one big opening and therefore won't interfere w/ the driveshaft if teh box is raised or lowered.
For my boat, I think the solution is to take the drives off, and teh boxes, get out the ole sawz-all and cut the drive shaft loop protector out of the top of teh plate and then I can raise the boxes. This would still be better than one big opening on teh stellings plate and maintains a nice partition for all the other cables going in.
I took some pics while I was in there, but I'm too tired to download and post.
All simple in theory. I don't know how to pull a drive, yet, and it looks like a booger to get to those boats. Defintely a two or three person job. And a case of beer.
