My First Formula

Hey there OSO Formula owners. I'm a new member and a new Formula owner, 1988 242 SS, my first

I got this boat off of eBay and I hope I didn't make a mistake with it. I'll be picking it up next week after a survey is done.

I hope this is a good start and I really hope this 300+ hour supercharged 502 gets me through at least this season and hopefully next before a refresh, fingers crossed.

Thanks to Cuda, I got hooked on Formula's. I only wish I could have bought his 301 while he was in the mood to sell.

Nice ride!! Looks like it's in very nice shape. That's the only blown Sun Sport I've seen.

Re: My First Formula

I just found out that this has a special seating configuration that Formula did not sell with the Sun Sport. I was confused by the 2 sets of fold down back to back seats. The owner ordered another fold down passenger seat and replaced the captains chair with it and another side/back bolster. Gives more seating :-) I even get the original capt. chair in case I want to go back to that configuration. Now I have an original "RARE" (lol, for what it's worth) 242 SS

Thanks for the comments so far, I can't wait to get this boat home and in the water in a few weeks.

Thanks, when I saw the condition of the hull and interior I figured he probably took the same kind of care with the engine so the 300+ hours didn't scare me off right away. I had someone else look at the boat and the commment they made was "That is one clean Formula" so I went for it and bid.

I usually check to see how clean the bilge is.

I'll bet that puppy will move!

I wasn't even trying to see what she would do, but I was increasing throttle gradually as I was headed down the river. Mostly watching the water for debris and people. The wife mentioned (forcefully :-) I might be going a little fast and I slowed down and stopped to check the motor out since it was our first run. I really wasn't trying to go fast, but when I checked the GPS it said 77MPH

I need to verify that again, and I still had some throttle left, but does that sound right? I can't say where the RPMs were but not much over 4000 unless I really missed going over 4000 those last few seconds. I am thinking I may have had a bad reading on the GPS.

All I can say is...This is one smooth running boat, even at (maybe) 77MPH WOW

Congrats Herb. Nice boat. 77 seems do-able with a superchargered 242, but you may be a little over-propped at a little over 4000 rpms.

Yeah I may be over propped, but not sure. Like I said I wasn't out to see what my top speed was. It was just a nice smooth ride and I wasn't really paying attention to the guages since it wasn't suppose to be my speed run. I may have been a bit higher with the RPMs but not sure. I'm running a Brovo1 26P prop. Does that sould like to much prop for my supercharged 502 and my boat?

Nice boat!! Will make a KILLER sleeper boat. You will blow some peoples minds with how fast that thing is.

As for the speed what prop pitch is on it? How much hp does the motor make. I would think that 77 mph may have been high for 4,000RPM.
