Exhaust upgrades for 292 Fastech 6.2 MPI

Hello all,

A few months back I purchased a 2003 292 FasTech w/ dual 6.2 MPIs, approx. 160 hours on the clocks. I'm planning on supercharging in the winter of 2007\2008, so will need to upgrade the exhaust anyway and am thinking of doing headers or better flowing manifolds now.

Any suggestions on brand, install tips\headaches to plan for, etc.? Would like to hear from others that have upgraded exhausts.

Drives are B1s, 1.65 ratio and with B1 28p props I see 70-71 mph (GPS), occasionally boucing off the rev limiter. Would like to get 80+ eventually.

Let me know what you find out. I've got an 02 with the same power and have been thinking about the same thing. If the CMI's give the 496's a 50 to 60 hp increase, there has to be something available for the 6.2s

I bought Imco headers for my 04 292. They claim 40hp increase per motor. I've seen speeds of 74mph on my speedo only. Made a pretty big difference out of the hole. I paid around 5k for the package. I've thought about super charging my boat as well. Keep us updated. I'd like to know how it goes!-Nick

Nick,

Thanks for the reply. A few questions for you (or anyone else that did this mod):

*Did you buy headers or manifolds? I only saw manifolds listed on Imco's site. If manifolds, are they the Thumper, PowerFlow, or PowerFlow Plus model?

*Do you have Captains Call and did it add any complication to the install?

*Did you do the install yourself, and if so, how did it go? If not, how much was the install and are you including that in the $5k?

*Can you post pics?

-Rob

I replaced mine with Stainless marine manifolds. I have the Corsa CC. The install was tight but it fits fine with some patience. Better sound, better power but some more transom soot.

Your right Rob. They are manifolds. If memory serves they are the power flow. I do not have captains call exhaust. I am definately not a mechanic. My brother in law did the install and it was no big deal. The boat is in storage a long way from where I am now so I won't be able to sen you a picture any time soon. It does look very nice in there though. Hope that helps. Good luck.-Nick

CMI makes some really nice Stainless Headers for the 6.2 Merc and then you pick they type of tail pipe you want. Look great and they are good for 30 hp and 30 foot lbs of torque per motor. The headers go for around 2300 dollars (polished)and then you have to add the tail pipes.
