Phantom,
Those were the tips I was intending to put on. How did the sound level improve after you installed the thru tips?

I am in the process of installing tips on my 303 right now. I took the Silent Thunder box off, and pulled out the stock tips. Just waiting on 2 more of the new tips to show up before I drill the new mounting holes.

We did it here for a customer with 496's in a 353 Sport. It is quite a bit louder, but that's what he wanted. Removing the originals was not easy because Formula puts them in like they do everything else- right. I think they were put in with 5200 around the holes. If your installer holds to his $100 labor that's a deal. We used the same ones pictured above- they look great. I don't know what kind of water you run in, but if it washes up from behind you are more likely to ingest water than with the originals- just something to keep in mind as you run the boat.

start by taking the "cone" out of the end of the Corsa's
this keeps less muffling water in the can at any time
try that first, it's a nice compromise. My HO 353 sounds "just right"
I nixed the ST box and stock tips (in with 5200, what a treat) and installed these new take-off Corsa's. They are the "bigger" of the ones you'll find.

Rip,to clarify, you removed the ST pan and the stock short tips, totally unmuffled, which later boats don't have, then installed Corsa muffler tips which you modified. Is that correct? The later boats have these mufflers already, which can be modified with a die grinder,so on a later boat,to get more sound, cut out the baffles and leave the stock tips in? Is that the plan?

an accurate synopsis sir
I have the same Corsa's that they are using now I believe. Mine are off a 382
all the "discs" (baffles) are still in mine. You really can't get those out easily at all without a significant risk of trashing the body (can)
Just the "end cones" that lie after the baffles and serve as a sound wave canceller and, as a by-product hold more sound muffling water in the can by volume...
have been removed
hey, this could be the new "Bird size and price" thread?

Ok,I'm with you now. We have always removed the end cones, only takes a few minutes, The baffles are another story, pretty tough job. If the final goal is noise,a switch to the totally open tips makes more sense. But at the risk of being an old fart, noise has its problems in today's society.Being a good neighbor sometimes means to take it a little easy on the noise. We have too many people wanting to come down on our beloved performance boats for lots of reasons, excessive noise just gives them more ammo. Just a thought.

I had them change them to those tips before I took delivery of the boat. It's got a nice rumble.
