Default Formula 271 owners,

what prop are you running, Ive gotta 93 271 with a 502mag trying to fit it with the right prop, came with a 21 mirage, spun at 5100, tried a 23 mirage spun at 5100, so far my speed is 57mph gps, I'm thinking a 23 mirage plus, anyone?

My 95 271 with a 502MPI and a 1.5 gear was delivered with a 21P solid hub Mirage. It would bounce off the rev limiter at WOT no matter the conditions or how much the girlfriend of the moment weighed. I bought a 22p Bravo and was happy enough with it to cease any more prop experimentation. Much better planing, turning, and cruise speed than the three blade, and would still touch the rev limiter light on fuel in a slight chop. If my handheld GPS was accurate, 63-64 was not uncommon.

As deep as the drive is, tweaking a three blade will probably get the most mile per hour. But the 3500-4000 cruise speed is where the four blade won me over.

Please triple check me, but part # 831910A55 should be a right hand rotation 22 pitch Bravo One propeller with a 1 inch hub kit. That is the propeller I was happiest with. Your results may vary, so don't be upset if your opinion is different. I am at sea level and boat in brackish water in a river with a current. My engine may have been weaker/stronger, my boat lighter/heavier, my bottom straighter/more warped. This also assumes your drive (that has a 1 inch propshaft and 1.50 ratio) spins clockwise going forward and you have a 502 mag efi/mpi. Not a carbureted 502 mag.

My memory fails me but i think the limiter is 5050 on the 502 efi/mpi.

All of the 502 mag efi/mpi were 415.

I have a 1995 271 SR1 w/502 EFI Bravo 1 w/1.5 Ratio and the prior owner included the Feb. 1996 issue of Powerboat Magazine which tested this identical boat and they came up with their recommendation for best prop as being the Mirage Plus 3 Blade Stainless Propeller 14 5/8 x 23P Part# 48-13704A46. It was a pretty interesting article and it's just one opinion that was nice to see in print but of course, everyone has their own opinion. btw, they were testing the 271 off the Ventura Coast, Ca.

very welcome, I just need time to take mine out for the first run-the weather here in So Cal is awesome right now. I have a 4 blade mirage 24P on it and I've been looking for a good used prop like the one in the article-at least to have as a spare.

Had my buddys 271 out yesterday, we were trying to check out prop speeds, we did not have a GPS on hand (dead batteries) but we saw 5100 totally trimmed out, that seemed about right, he has the 496, I am not sure if it is a 365 hp or 385 hp, it is a indy also, he wanted to go bigger prop but I think he is right where he is, 21P Mirage plus now..

Sound like the right WOT rpm?
