Question Installing sea strainers 292

I have been finding silt and seaweed in my engine and oil cooler.I guess it is time to install some sea strainers.I am suprised that the inlets on the bravo drives let this stuff enter.Do they have small holes like the alpha drives or do I install sea strainers some where in this tight set up already. It is a 1991 292 SR1 with pair of 502s.Can some one display pictures and where they have installed sea strainers on this boat. Thanks for your help in advance.

Don't know if this helps you, but this is where I installed strainers on my 382. Same as the factory location. Did it while I had the engines out, otherwise it would have been almost impossible.

I believe they are Stainless Marine. Big (much bigger than Formula factory was using), beefy and well-built, but pretty expensive. Don't remember exactly how much .. have the receipt in a file in Ohio. Around $700 ea if I recall correctly, but it was one of the things Fred at Trick Marine gave me a decent deal on before he met his demise.

The factory strainers are Gil. Here is my 382 as delivered and after I modified them. I fitted them with threaded inlets, installed ball valves, and added an additional fitting below the screen so they can be back-flushed with a hose. (Those are the smaller hoses that you see coming out of the forward/outboard area of each strainer.) I changed the knobs to T-handles as well.

Gil strainers look to be $354 each at CPPerformance or Elite Marine. Mine came as part of the engine package. I did the fitting modifications myself.
